Fudgy VS Airy Chocolate Cake 😈 Which do you prefer? 🍫

The Chocolate Cake 🍫

 Liv, Hody, Sherby, Canny

Introduction

Most of the cakes we tasted in Hong Kong, or maybe in Asia, mainly have a light and airy spongy texture. While once I went to the US, I tried a kind of cake called Brownie. This cake gave me a brand new impression towards the texture of cakes. It was very dense and fudgy. Therefore, I would like to investigate why the cakes can have such a significantly different textures, when the ingredients are the same (eggs, flour, chocolate, butter and sugar).

Hypothesis

We assume that the fat content of a cake will make the cake denser and more fudgy. While for the fat content, we believe that the amount of butter added will be the most crucial component.

The more butter we added into the cake, the denser and fudgier the cake will be.
The less butter we added into the cake, the lighter and airier the cake will be.

We would like to make two pieces of cake, which contain different quantity of butter, but other ingredients added are being constant,so that we would like to compare the ____ between two pieces of cake.

Marvellous Crispy Deep Fried BEE🐝

Marvellous Crispy Deep Fried BEE🐝
Introduction: As the deep fried bee larva I have tried was not crispy enough which made it so limp and strange. Therefore, to reduce its weirdness, we would like to investigate how to make it less soggy and more crispy.

Hypothesis: We would like to increase the crispness of the bee larva by increasing the number of coating (egg wash + bread crumb).

Independent variable:
--> The number of coating on bee larva (egg wash + bread crumb)

Dependent variable:
--> The crispness of the bee larva

Control variable:
  --> Time of frying
  --> Oil temperature
  --> Other room conditions

Definition of Crispness:
First bite: Place sample between incisors, bite through and evaluate the lever of higher pitched noise. (Seymour and Hamman, 1988)

properties related to crispness were able to disclose the complexity of crispness and its association with other similar sensory attributes, e.g. brittleness, hardness, crackliness or crunchiness.

In this review various aspects that are relevant to crispy/crunchy behavior of food products are discussed.

The measurement of crispness.

Fried river snail

The weirdest food I have tried before is the fried river snail.I think the smell of it is a little bit fishy. Of course, some people may think it is fragment since it has been fried. But I don't like such smell.

About the taste, I think it tastes like a uncooked food.River snails are characterised by the thin shell and thick meat. The meat inside is rubbery, which is like uncooked meat.

In side of the appearance, the I thnk it is just like the snail we can see in nature.Nothing special about that.

weird food in my life! 🐛

TASTE SMELL
Larvets original worm snax - with Cheddar Cheese favor urghhhhh!🤢

I was scared and perplexed when I forced to try this strange snack which was bought by my friend WHY WONG in USA! It costs about HKD$10 per pack.

I am a brave girl...um...but I am really afraid of worms...🐛
After we had wonderful mango dessert in "B jai", we decided to accept challenge!

Actually, those small mealworms are long-dead, dried, and entirely flavourless.
They are crispy and dry in texture.....awkward🤐
Even there is cheddar cheese powder on the worms, they are UTTERLY TASTELESS !! After chewing for a while, I could finally feel a bit salty.

I spent around 10 minutes forcing myself to swallow one piece of 2-mm worm. I swear that I would never try it again anymore ! What a terrible experience 👅☠️

Just chill.

Chocolate x Instant Noodles !!???

When I was small, I always imagine combining the food I love together (what a great thing that I can enjoy all the food I like in a bite~~).

I love eating Chocolate. I also love eating instant noodles.

But I have never imagined such a weird combination until I saw this in Japan...

As an adventurist, I immediately put it into my shopping car and tried it that night.

The instant noodles pack contains the chocolate sauce, the noodles and a pack of dehydrated vegetables.

(I can't wait to try it! The chocolate sauce smells so good!)

I didn't add the dried vegetables at the beginning as I wanna try the original taste so much!

Actually, the appearance was quite attractive -- just like the stir-fried noodles with soy sauce from Hong Kong.

The noodles surprised me when I first tasted it! It tasted really nice!!

I didn't feel weird as the instant noodle was cooked by plain water, it was tasteless.

While the taste of the chocolate sauce was sweet, when they were mixed together, it was just like a chocolate dessert!

After my 1st bite, I added in the dehydrated vegetables.

- I finally realised why people said this brand was crazy -

I believed that adding the dehydrated vegetables into the plain instant noodles, it would be acceptable.

While for instant noodles (tasteless) + chocolate sauce (sweet) + dehydrated vegetables (salty), it's super weird... They should not be mixed together. They do not match at all.

So I decided to avoid eating the dehydrated vegetables and continue to enjoy the rest of the noodles.

However, maybe because I used to eat salty instant noodles like with chicken or pork stock, I felt super full and greasy.

I tried to finish the whole noodles but I failed. I felt like I am going to vomit.

This awful experience made me dislike my favourite chocolate for a few days.

I swear I won't eat it again even it tasted really nice at the beginning.

But I question myself - Why I don't use the same amount of money and appetite to enjoy other chocolate products?

Deep Fried Bee larva

The weirdest food I have eaten so far is the deep fired bee larva. The deep fried bee larva sounds creepy. Can you imagine eating egg of the insect?

In the past, my father used to have a honeycomb in his warehouse. When he was harvesting the honey, sometimes he brought some bee larva back home and cook them as one of our dinner. Usually, he cooked with the bee larva with eggs and sometimes he just made a deep fried bee larva. People may think it creepy, but it tastes really good. It looks like tiny and small chicken strips. It smells like tempura. As my father cooked them with salt and pepper, it tastes a little bit salty and spicy. The texture of the larva is just like stir fried egg. It is crispy outside and soft inside, which is really delicious.
